Most senior phones lock you into their own plan. The ClearCall Flip does not. It is an unlocked 4G flip phone that takes any AT&T or T-Mobile family SIM, so a parent can join the plan you already pay for, or run on a low-cost prepaid line.

It is built for someone who wants a phone, not a computer. The keys are large, raised and backlit. The text on the 3.2 inch screen is big enough to read at arm's length. Open it and the call button is where it always was. Close it and the outer screen shows the time and any missed call.

The red key in the middle of the keypad dials a contact you choose, so help is one press away. Volume goes loud enough for a kitchen with the TV on, and there is a headphone jack for a wired headset.

It runs 4G LTE with VoLTE, so it will keep working as carriers shut down older networks. There is a 5 MP camera for grandkid photos, and WhatsApp and YouTube are available from the built-in app store.
